French language version: This study by the French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy (MEDDE) examines the implementation of offsets globally, identifying best practices in order to inform the French regulatory and methodological framework on offsets. To do this, 29 countries were surveyed (Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada (Quebec), Chile, China, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Ethiopia, Germany, India, Japan, Kenya,Mexico, Morocco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vietnam.) The report focuses on the regulations in each country, the institutional framework, the terms of offsetting, and the operation of compensation banks where these exist. It also provides summaries of the methodological framework for equivalence developed in the United States, Australia, Switzerland, Germany and the United Kindgom
