Opportunities and Lessons for a Rights-Based Perspective on FLEGT and VPA Processes in Latin America
Quito, Ecuador
From October 28-29, 2013, Forest Trends and the Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI) organized a workshop entitled, “Opportunities and Lessons for a Rights-Based Perspective on FLEGT and VPA Processes in Latin America.” The event was hosted by Grupo Faro in Quito, Ecuador. The goal of the workshop was to discuss value added opportunities regarding tenure rights issues that emerge from FLEGT VPA negotiations. Bringing together representatives from around the world, participants reflected on lessons learned in Africa and Asia and discussed implications for Latin America. Two new reports were presented and discussed:
- Lessons Learned from Civil Society Efforts to Promote Community (Forest) Resource Rights and other Rights in Voluntary Partnership Agreements
- Making Forestry Fairer: A Practical Guide for Civil Society Organisations Taking Part in FLEGT VPA Negotiations
