International Workshop on Promoting Legal and Sustainable Trade and Investment of Forest Products

From March 25-27, 2014 in Shanghai, China, the Center for International Forest Products Trade (CINFT) of China’s State Forestry Administration (SFA) hosted the “International Workshop on Promoting Legal and Sustainable Trade and Investment of Forest Products.” The event was co-organized by Forest Trends, the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), the EU FLEGT Facility of the European Forest Institute (EFI), and WWF China. Several topics were discussed, including:
- Overview of China’s forest product trade in 2013 and overseas investment of Chinese forestry enterprises
- The trade of rosewood and other tropical hardwoods into China
- Consultation of the draft Guidelines on Sustainable Overseas Trade and Investment of Forest Products by Chinese Enterprises
Workshop participants included government officials from China, Africa, Brazil, and the Mekong region, along with representatives from civil society, research organizations, and the timber industry.
