What is an employer or corporate matching gift program? A matching gift is when a person donates to a non-profit organization and their employer donates an equal or greater amount to the same non-profit. A matching gift is a great way for a donor to double or even triple their contribution to Forest Trends.

I don’t know if my employer has a matching gift program. What should I do?

Step 1: Contact your Human Resources department. Ask if they will match your donation to Forest Trends. If the answer is yes, typically a company will require a receipt as proof of the contribution and a single form requesting that they match the donation.

Step 2: Make your donation to Forest Trends and keep your acknowledgment letter (receipt of donation).

Step 3: Provide your Human Resources department with your acknowledgment letter (receipt of donation) and completed match form.

Step 4: Confirm the match was made.

In partnership with your employer, you have just doubled the impact of your gift to Forest Trends!

How much of my matched gift is tax-deductible? Forest Trends is exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501(C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Tax ID 52-02135531. A copy of our IRS Letter is available here. Therefore, your personal contribution is tax-deductible to the full extent provided by law. Your employer may also be able to deduct their portion of the matched gift.
